An Ice Cream Lover's Guide to Labour Day - Kohu Road

An Ice Cream Lover’s Guide to Labour Day

Ah, Labour Day, the light at the end of the tunnel after a long, public holiday-free winter! It’s time to fish out your togs, dust off the BBQ and prepare yourself for the upcoming summer season. Whether you’ll be chilling at home with the family or gallivanting around the country, one thing’s for certain: it ain’t no party without a tub of Kohu Road ice cream.

And, we’ve made it extra easy for you to give into temptation this weekend by creating an ice cream lover’s guide to Labour Day, a comprehensive list of where to go and what to eat (hint: it’s ice cream) on your day off.

1. Go on a Westie adventure

Kohu Road was born in the foothills of the Waitakere Ranges so, for us, there’s no better place to spend a long weekend. Everyone knows that ice cream tastes better after a beautiful, bush walk, so put on your hiking boots and get exploring! Afterwards, reward yourself with a scoop from one of our favourite institutions: The Tannery. It’s the perfect place to nab our latest and greatest flavours including our delectable, new dairy-free range.

2. Cook up a storm

Up your cooking game ahead of the silly season by getting creative in the kitchen. There are so many stunning recipes for ice cream lovers to practice their skills with but we can’t get enough of these berry shortbread ice cream sammies from High Tea With Dragons. They’re super simple to make and feature a generous scoop of our Corner Dairy ice cream – so you know they’ve gotta be good!

3. Indulge at the beach

The sound of waves lapping at the shore and the smell of crisp, sea air – yep, there’s certainly something therapeutic about the beach and a scoop of ice cream can make it even more satisfying! Sadly, a wonderful day by the sea can often be tarnished by grabbing a cone from the nearest dairy and spending each bite wishing it was Kohu Road! So, in order to achieve maximum beach contentment, be sure to pack a (large) chilly bin and fill it with a few Kohu Road classics. Check out our handy map to find your nearest beachside stockist.

4. Wine and dine

We’re lucky enough to work with wonderful eateries all over the country, meaning you should never be too far away from getting your Kohu Road fix! If you’re headed North this weekend then be sure to pay a visit to the gang at Food at Wharepuke in KeriKeri to sample their award-winning desserts -you can’t go wrong with a chocolate pot! Those escaping to the Bay of Plenty for a 3-day beachathon can enjoy a scoop of our manuka honey ice cream from the legendary Mossop’s Honey in Tauranga, a Kohu Road flavour that isn’t available ANYWHERE else! Staying put in the City of Sails? Villa Maria Winery, Casablanca Orewa and True Food and Yoga all boast some of Auckland’s most spectacular views – and just wait until you try their food!

5. Revel in dairy-free delights

Our brand-new, dairy-free range is now available around the country so those who don’t do dairy can enjoy a bit of public holiday indulgence too! In Auckland, you can grab a tub of dairy-free deliciousness from New World Albany, New World Devonport, New World Remuera, New World Kumeu, Farro Fresh and The Tannery. In the Waikato, New World Morrinsville has all four fab flavours in stock. Christchurch Kohu Road fans can pick up a tub from Fresh Choice Merivale and our friends in windy Welly should head to New World Wellington City to get their hands on this revolutionary range.

Happy three-day weekend, ice cream lovers, and don’t forget to tag us in your ‘gramworthy adventures @kohu_road
